The next series of dance classes at the begins Sunday, June 1 and runs for 2 months. No experience needed and partners not required. 10$ per hour per person or 8$ per hour per person if paid by the month. The first class, at 5:30PM is Rock-N-Roll - East Coast Swing 1 danced in Triple Time. These moderate speed Swing steps are the basis for all other fast swing dances.
The second hour at 6:30PM is Foxtrot 1. It’s a silky smooth progressive dance that is used for music done by your favorite Big Bands and 1950’s Crooners.

Level 1 Art & Design: Color Studies

This course provides the sound basics of color theory, stripped to its essentials. A color reference sketchbook will be started in class that will provide you with new approaches to color, a lexicon of color schemes, and a valuable reference sourcebook for years to come. It could be an aid to the following people: quilters, embroiderers, weavers, dressmakers, knitters, floral arrangers, horticulturalists, woodworkers, designers and, in short, anyone who would like to work with color in a more informed way.
Golden Acrylic Lecture

With Barbara DePirro. This lecture will guide beginning painters through all the basics of the acrylic medium while opening up new possibilities for more experienced artists. Get a grip on the many gels and mediums, and learn the secrets of blending and controlling the drying time. Take home free samples to try later, and get your questions answered. The Whidbey belly dance community is featuring dancer-teacher extraordinaire, Kate Pitroff of Tucson, Arizona, for a three-hour workshop.
Kate has been dancing since 1985, and has been a protégé of internationally known Kathryn Ferguson since 1994. She has also studied with famous dancers Morocco, Dahlena and Rachael Brice. 4th Corner Exchange

They will be introducing “4th Corner Exchange” alternative currency system to Whidbey Island. There are about 8 islanders that have joined 4th Corner Exchange and they want to grow it. It started in Bellingham and now has over 400 folks there, over 100 in Port Townsend and some here and there (a couple on Gabriola Island of all places). There will be a showing of the 30 minute DVD “Money as Debt” and then the founder, Francis Ayley, will tell all about it. As the U.S. Dollar collapses, the 4th Corner Exchange “Life Dollar” will remain inflation/deflation proof.

America’s Boating Course

Presented by the Deception Pass Sail & Power Squadron. This 8-hour class course covers boating basics including rules of the road, boating safety, required equipment, navigational aids, radio operations. This course will qualify boaters for the new Washington State Boater Education cards, which are now available for $10 and a copy of your ABC Certificate after passing the test on June 21. This card is required for operation of any power boat or personal water craft if you are 20 years or younger. It is also required for equipment rental at some locations. The cost is $25. For Middle School Students. Staffed by NW Language Academy, the program uses an activities based approach to teaching language that includes songs, music, games, visual and dramatic arts and movement – all of which emphasize oral and listening communication and development of vocabulary. The students also learn about cultural aspects of the language and often have the opportunity to interact with visiting guests from other countries and expand their global awareness. Meetings will be for one and a quarter hours every Wednesday, right after school. Cost is on a sliding scale from $100 - $125 per session. NWLA is dedicated to making this opportunity available to all. They offer sibling discounts and have limited scholarships/work trades available. Contributions to the scholarship fund are welcome.
